IMGs ‘highly unsatisfied’ due to 10-year moratorium

Of 3502 GPs surveyed by researchers at Monash University as part of the Medicine in Australia: Balancing Employment and Life (MABEL) study, 27% were IMGs, almost half of whom identified as being restricted. Around 37% of GPs in rural areas were IMGs.

Researchers found among restricted IMGs the odds of being satisfied in their current location was two to five times lower than Australian graduates based on measures of social interaction, access to leisure interests, proximity of family and friends, choice of schools and spouse
