India to tackle medicine supply corruption

Currently, Indian hospitals are supposed to provide their patients with free generic drugs, but in two-thirds of cases, doctors prescribe expensive, branded medicines instead.

One of the hurdles against supplying patients with drugs is corruption as many hospitals do not stock generic alternatives and there is no price cap on medicines, which means private companies can sell generics for the same price as the branded version.
