Ketamine still widely used for cancer pain despite RCT evidence

Ketamine is still widely used by palliative care specialists to treat refractory cancer pain despite good clinical trial evidence that it has no benefit.

A survey has found one third of clinicians have rejected the negative results of the Palliative Care Clinical Studies Collaborative (PaCCSC) for ketamine, and believe the drug is effective based on their personal experience.

The survey of 123 members of the Australia and NZ Society of Palliative Care Medicine found that almost all were aware of the results from the 2012
