Legionnaires’ scare forces hospital shutdown

The Wesley Hospital, one of Brisbane’s biggest private hospitals, has a moratorium on new admissions until at least next Wednesday, following confirmation of legionella pneumonia in two patients, one of whom has died.

The hospital has found legionella bacteria in its hot water system.

Dr Chris Beck, acting director of medical services, said it was possible previous hospital patients may seek GP advice on their risk of infection from the outbreak.
