Less red tape on way for specialist IMGs

IMGs who are attempting to gain the necessary specialist recognition to work in Australia will face less red tape under a revamp announced by the Medical Board of Australia.

The changes to the Specialist Pathway - open to overseas trained specialists whose qualifications have been partially recognised by specialist colleges as well as those seeking to work in an area of need - will be introduced in July.

It will mean IMGs on the pathway will apply directly to specialist colleges for assessment, rather than to the Australian Medical Council which currently acts as a clearing house for
