Limit private health insurer role in general practice: AMA

The association firmed in its stance on the issue in a position statement in which it argued that a range of services for private health insurance customers could benefit patients but were offered in isolation of usual GP care. AMA president Dr Steve Hambleton said services to aid the management of chronic conditions, such as access to exercise physiologists, dietitians and physiotherapists, actually risked fragmenting care.

“By supporting a greater role for GPs in private health insurance arrangements, there is the potential for the
