Loss of confidence leads to fall in child flu jabs

Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) deputy chair Associate Professor Peter Richmond, from the University of Western Australia, told a conference last week that flu vaccination of children in his state had plunged from a high of 43% in 2009 to 6.4% last year.

There had been a loss of confidence not only among parents but also providers, he told the 13th National Immunisation Conference of the Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA) in Darwin.
