MA new code calls for reporting of doc payments

In response to a push by the ACCC in 2012 for full transparency of industry payments to healthcare professionals, Medicines Australia' s new code requires pharmaceutical companies to report on an individual basis a wide range of payments and transfers of value to individual healthcare professionals as well as sponsorships of third party educational meetings and symposia.

Under section 41 of the code, all consultation fees and expenses for medical education purposes are required to be reported as well as any fees paid to healthcare professionals in their role as advisory board members to companies.
Meals and beverages provided by a company to a healthcare professional are capped at a maximum of $120.
