Medibank trialling new ‘GP-centric’ care model

Australia’s largest private health insurer will team up with the Victorian and West Australian governments to conduct two-year trials involving more than 2000 complex and chronically ill patients in Victoria and over 1000 in WA. Medibank has already started enrolling patients for the Victorian trial, seeking candidates on the basis of multiple hospital admissions and geographic area.

Patients are being identified through data matching of Medibank’s claims information and public hospital records, but the key element is the participation of their GPs.
