Medical abortion drug on PBAC agenda

Reimbursement of the drugs will be considered at the March meeting of the PBAC, according to an agenda released late yesterday.

MS Health, a not-for-profit pharmaceutical arm of Marie Stopes International Australia (MSIA), has applied for an Authority Required listing for the termination of intra-uterine pregnancy of up to 49 days’ gestation.

In August, mifepristone – also known as RU-486 – was added to the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods. Only medical practitioners recognised by MS Health as having completed appropriate training can prescribe the drug.
