MRI rebate proposed for faulty breast implants

More than 9000 women received PIP implants, now at the centre of a global scandal over the use of sub-standard silicone, from 2002 until they were recalled by the TGA in 2010.

A health department spokeswoman today confirmed that the offer of subsidised scans, to check for signs of implant rupture, was “being carefully considered”, although she said no final decision had been made.

The TGA was continuing its own series of tests on the implants, and affected women are advised that it is not necessary to have them
