New AMA chief flags softening of anti-freeze stance

THE new chief of the AMA has flagged softening opposition to the Medicare rebate freeze, saying the health portfolio is "a lot bigger than GP visits".

Dr Michael Gannon (pictured), who claimed the leadership in a vote on Sunday, says the AMA will continue to work to lift the freeze under his leadership while being mindful not to jeopardise other areas of health policy.
