New billing reviews lead to over-servicing accusations

THE DEPARTMENT of Human Services has adopted a tactic of reviewing the claims of all doctors at practices where Medicare claims data indicates possible over-servicing by four or more medical practitioners in the same business. 

Specifically, it targets practices where four or more GPs are approaching, or have breached, the '80-20 rule', which prevents doctors from providing 80 or more professional attendances in a day on 20 or more days in a 12-month period.
