No-fault insurance call for vaccine injury

THE federal government will be urged to create a special provision within its proposed National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS) for children who receive a vaccine related injury.

The Public Health Association of Australia (PHAA), which has long advocated for a no-fault compensation scheme for vaccine injury, said immunisation programs have an acknowledged statistical risk, albeit small, of extreme adverse reactions.

“A poor outcome from immunisation is something I think society has to look at in a slightly different way,” PHAA chief executive Michael Moore told MO.
