Our Cate packs heat in aimless action thriller: Hanna (M)

THAT young woman with the seemingly unpronounceable first name, Saoirse Ronan, is obviously a favourite of director Joe Wright.

She played the young Briony in Wright’s adaptation of Ian McEwan’s Atonement (2007), a character of rather naive destructive force. As Hanna, the naivety is there but the force is much, much deadlier.

For unknown reasons, she and her father (Bana) are living in isolation from the world in an arctic wilderness. She has been trained to hunt, to kill, to defend herself ruthlessly.

She’s also been schooled by her father in facts about history and the physical world but she has no knowledge of contemporary life.

Is she ready to leave and confront the world that will hold dangers for her? Hanna believes she is and her father leaves
