Petition calls for return of Hunter CEO
Earlier this month the board of the Hunter Medicare Local (HML) announced its decision not to renew the contract of Newcastle-based GP Dr Mark Foster, indicating that Dr Foster was keen to return to clinical practice.
Dr Foster served as CEO of the Hunter Urban Division of General Practice since 2007. He was the foundation CEO for the HML after the division formed the new body.
However, a petition calling for his services to be retained has been distributed to members by GP and HML senior clinical director Dr Lee Fong.
The petition was understood to have garnered around 250 signatures prior to a board meeting held this week.
Furthermore , a report obtained by MO, co-authored by a number of the HML’s GP clinical directors, argues that the failure to renew Dr Foster’s contract is likely to expose the organisation to significant clinical and administrative risk.
