Pharmacy vax plan risky, AMA warns

The Queensland Pharmacist Immunisation Pilot (QPIP), announced by the state branches of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, is due to begin in the 2014 influenza season and will target patients not covered by the National Immunisation Program.

The guild’s Queensland branch president Tim Logan said pharmacies were a “natural destination for the delivery of vital immunisation services”.

The trial, which also involves the Queensland University of Technology and James Cook University, follows consultation with the state’s health department and is to be monitored by both the Pharmacy Board of Australia and indemnifier Pharmaceutical Defence Limited.
