Plan to charge upfront priority fees scrapped

Dr Chris Gittoes, of the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre, a GP super clinic, had stood by the plan until mid-last week, but by last Friday the board intervened and confirmed it had been scrapped.

“The initiative by all GPs who were planning to run it has been abandoned,” centre chair Penny Crawford told MO.

Dr Gittoes had written to some patients saying a critical doctor shortage meant patients found it difficult to get an appointment and that for $140 he would “endeavour to give priority appointments
