The Pomeranz Review: Carol

TODD Haynes is a filmmaker drawn to melodramas, many of which touch on the subject of forbidden love. His 2002 film Far From Heaven was an exquisite exploration of transgressions within a marriage. And now with Carol, Haynes has put his considerable talents to adapting Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt, about a love affair between two women.

Carol is a wealthy socialite, separated from her husband Harge (Chandler) who is aware, from her pre-marriage relationship with Abby (Paulson), that his wife
