Prevocational training back on the table

The peak body for doctors has proposed a “community residency” program to replace the Prevocational General Practice Placements Program (PGPPP), which was axed in the 2014 budget. 

The scrapping of the PGPPP left General Practice as the only major medical specialty without prevocational training 

The AMA backed the fears of rural doctors, saying the loss particularly threatened damage to the GP workforce in rural and remote areas at a time of growing need.
