Price setting to go before UGPA

Since 2002 the RACGP has had special authority from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to let GPs agree on fees within a practice – technically price fixing – but the college let its authority lapse last year.

The AMA has offered to take up the authority for its members but the college has told the AMA and ACCC that if the authority does not apply to all GPs it would risk undermining team morale and collaboration between GPs while creating confusion among patients over variable fees within practices.
