PSA screening debate heats up after statement release

PATHOLOGISTS have reignited the debate on prostate cancer screening with a position statement the RACGP believes gives "implicit approval" for asymptomatic men to seek PSA testing.

While the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) last week called for medical specialties to develop a consensus position on testing, Professor Chris Del Mar, speaking on behalf of the RACGP, questioned their way of going about it.

"It's a very odd way to begin an open dialogue – by making a formal statement and having a press
