PSR: the fallout
IT WAS no surprise to NSW GP Dr Robert Clarke when, in 2008, a Medicare officer got in touch with concerns about his workload and medical records. At the time, Dr Clarke was running a busy practice on the NSW mid-north coast and had a special interest in skin cancer.
“I’m a high-volume doctor, and back then I was in the top 1%, so you’re going to get reviewed,” he says.
Dr Clarke ended up in a hearing before a Professional Services Review (PSR) panel, which resulted in a finding against him of “inappropriate practice”.
