PTSD risk for gender nonconforming kids

The research included 9000 young adults who were screened for PTSD, and asked to recall childhood experiences and history of abuse.

The study found that 10% were gender nonconforming before the age of 11 years. Their activity choices, interests, and pretend play fell outside what is typically expressed by their biological sex.

Rates of PTSD were almost twice as high among young adults who were gender nonconforming in childhood. 85% of the group identified as heterosexual in adulthood.
