Push for decriminalisation as ‘war on drugs’ deemed a failure

Three federal MPs last week called on the government to ask the Productivity Commission to investigate decriminalising the personal use of drugs following a report from political think-tank Australia21, which argued that the ‘war on drugs’ stance had failed.

The approach was backed by a new hard-hitting report from the Global Commission on Drugs that said repressive law enforcement was driving an HIV pandemic among users and their sexual partners.
