RACGP calls for extra $475m in 2011 budget
The RACGP has called on the Government to invest $475 million into general practice and primary care infrastructure grants as part of its wish list for the 2011-12 federal budget.
In its submission to the budget, due to be handed down by Treasurer Wayne Swan in May this year, the college has also called for further investments in e-health, preventive health funding and educational grants.
The college submission, released last week, recommends a $475 million investment in general practice and primary healthcare infrastructure grants, a $25 million investment in rural procedural grants and an additional $1 million to expand the number of places available in the Rural Locum Education Assistance program.
RACGP president Professor Claire Jackson said that while the Government had proven it recognised the importance of primary healthcare in the community, more investment was needed.
