RACGP presidency nominations open as two vie for the top job
Dr Evan Ackermann, a Queensland GP and chair of the RACGP’s National Standing Committee on Quality Care, will square off against Dr Frank Jones, a West Australian GP and current vice president of the college.
Dr Ackermann told MO it was an exciting time to be in general practice.
“From my point of view, it’s really about transforming the role of general practice to meet the needs of the 21st century,” he said of the prospect of leading the college.
“General practice has a record of providing low-cost, high-quality care. The college has to be proactive about that,” he said.
Dr Frank Jones, who has built up a 22-doctor practice in Mandurah, confirmed he would be putting in his nomination for the presidency in the next few days.
He said he wanted the college to be more proactive in advocating for general practitioners and promoting the concept of the “expert generalist”
