RACGP rebuts criticism of smoking cessation advice

THE chair of the RACGP’s smoking cessation guidelines has defended the document following criticism that it places undue emphasis on pharmacotherapy.

Professor Nicholas Zwar rejected claims made in an article published by The Conversation today, in which Macquarie University academics argue that the RACGP advice focuses on pharmaceutical interventions and “ignores or dismisses the value of unassisted quitting or going ‘cold turkey’ ”.
