RACGP's 'medical home' vision questioned

THE RACGP’s ‘medical home’ solution for chronic disease management requires deeper inquiry, one of Australia’s leading health care analysts says.

Sydney University Associate Professor Helena Britt says the concept of having patients register at a ‘medical home’, which is embraced by the RACGP and others, is not a big departure from existing practice. 

“It seems they think that voluntary registration equates with a medical home, and yet our data show that the vast proportion of people seeing a GP already are voluntarily connected,”
