Rebate freeze battle ‘not over’

The indexation freeze on Medicare schedule fees until 2018 will require GPs to charge a co-payment of at least $8.43 just to stay even in the 2017–18 financial year, new modelling published in the Medical Journal of Australia shows.

The freeze could leave GPs out of pocket to the tune of $384.32 per 100 consultations – or more for rural GPs – according to the research from the Family Medicine Research Centre at the University of Sydney.
