An analysis of the scale of the scandal, published by the government, shows there were 451 confirmed reports of ruptured implants by the end of January.
“Testing undertaken by the TGA has not found evidence that the risks involved with the use of PIP breast implants are any greater than those for any other brand of silicone gel-filled breast implants,” the regulator said.
It reiterated advice that the implants do not need to be routinely removed if they have not ruptured.
Safety concerns about the implants emerged following the revelation the French manufacturer used industrial grade, rather than medical grade, silicone in certain batches.
