Rural classification system scrapping applauded

Assistant Health Minister Fiona Nash announced the long-anticipated reform at the Rural Doctors Association of Australia annual conference in Sydney today.

The pledge comes after a long-running campaign by rural doctors to abolish Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC), under which some regional centres drew better incentives for doctors than smaller rural outposts.
