Support mounts for embargo on IMGs

The call follows an analysis by University of Melbourne researchers that showed IMGs were 24% more likely than their Australian counterparts to attract complaints to medical boards and had 41% higher odds of adverse findings.

Of the 5300 complaints analysed, 37% related to IMGs (MO, 19 October).

RDAA president Dr Paul Mara said “there would be an argument for any more IMGs to Australia to be stopped until the government supports the ones here better and looks at [international students] and makes sure they can get intern positions.”
