Thrombolysis the best option where PCI access limited

Ambulance-administered pre-hospital thrombolysis is the preferred reperfusion option for STEMI patients who don’t have timely access to primary PCI, a French study has shown.

In terms of five-year survival rates, the ‘pharmaco-invasive’ approach of thrombolysis followed by angiography was at least as good as primary PCI in STEMI patients when timely PCI was not an option, according to a study in Circulation this week.
