Turf war over hep C prescribing

Banning s100-trained GPs from autonomously prescribing new-generation hepatitis C drugs due for PBS listing next week
is “insulting”, a leading hepatitis C advocate says.

Hobart GP Dr James Freeman (pictured), best known as the face of the FixHepC website and a generic drug-sourcing buyers club, and whose efforts added pressure for the listing of direct-acting antiviral drugs (DAAs), sees it as “dumbing down” the GP role.

Other GPs working in the hepatitis C sphere agree.
