Unvaccinated kids in QLD - what next?

The legislation, introduced as a Private Members Bill by Labor Opposition MP Jo-Ann Miller, would have made it mandatory for Queensland childcare centres to exclude children who had not been vaccinated.

A similar Bill was passed in the NSW parliament in June.

The parliamentary report noted that the bill would impact on the common law right to consent or decline medical treatment, would not allow conscientious objection to vaccination, and could prevent access to early childhood education for some children, particularly in rural areas.

Almost all submissions received, 59 of 64, opposed the bill, and included submissions from the Australian Natural Therapists Association, the Australian Vaccination Network and individuals and families.
