Venom discovery may be key to new drugs

The toxin’s ability to reverse function was proof of principle that toxins could be modified to treat medical conditions, the researchers said in a media statement.

Venom from snakes, spiders, cone shells and other natural sources has already been exploited for drug therapy but the challenge is always to overcome the poison, and the new discovery may allow more toxins to be tamed.
