WA super clinic criticised for delayed opening date

A GP super clinic operated by former RACGP president Dr Vasantha Preetham has become a political ‘hot potato’ amid fresh complaints the $10 million project is behind schedule.

Member of the Legislative Assembly and former Labor WA health minister Michelle Roberts has slammed the state’s coalition government for failing to take responsibility for the project, which she believed should have already opened its doors.

Ms Roberts singled out WA Health Minister Dr Kim Hames, labelling his handling of the project “disgraceful”. She said the clinic was much needed in what was a growth area with existing GP practices already “stretched to the limit”.

With $5 million in federal funding allocated to the project, matched by the state, Ms Roberts said she had expected swifter progress.

“I can’t see any prospect of it opening this year,” she said. 

“By [2012] we will have
