A weighty dilemma

Obesity is one of the most pervasive conditions of the last 30 years. But many GPs find it challenging to ‘grasp the nettle’, as a slew of barriers prevent them adequately informing their patients they are overweight or obese and providing adequate follow-up and referral. 

All this comes in the wake of statistics that speak of a relentless, creeping epidemic; in 2007—08 the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare classified three out of five Australian adults, aged 18
