As well as their 1980s hit Jump, the rock band Van Halen were famous for refusing to play concerts unless they were supplied with a bowl of M&Ms with the brown ones removed.

Rather than being a case of Spinal Tap-like prima donna behaviour, the band claimed this was a test of the venue’s attention to detail and a minimum safety standard for their complex pyrotechnic stage show.
