GP faces lawsuit after delay in cancer diagnosis

Poor communication between doctors results in a bad outcome for a woman with breast cancer

Medicolegal Case: A 42-year-old woman presented to her GP complaining of a tender lump in her right breast that had been present for some time. 

The GP referred the patient to a fully integrated, specialist breast clinic that had access to imaging, cytology and surgeons.

The surgeon was not able to palpate any mass in either breast.

An ultrasound did show some irregular shadowing in the right breast and the report did question whether this was an infiltrating, lobular carcinoma
