GP fined and sanctioned over treatment of suspected Lyme patient

A PERTH GP has been fined $1000 and had restrictions placed on her ability to treat Lyme disease or Lyme-like illnesses after one of her patients developed sepsis from a catheter that was inserted to administer vitamins.

Dr Almayne Du Preez has also been ordered to pay the Medical Board’s costs of $9000 after accepting that her failure to consult with an infectious diseases specialist amounted to unprofessional conduct.
