Practices fear Health Care Homes payroll tax


Health Care Homes could be crippled by new tax bills if GPs are put on salaries, practice owners are warning.

With the first clinics to go live in October, deep uncertainty still surrounds what has been described as the biggest GP shake-up since the introduction of Medicare.

Under the scheme, eligible practices will receive block grants from the Federal Government to care for patients with complex chronic diseases.

The problem, from a tax perspective, is that practices may then have to use that money to pay GPs salaries to manage patients.
