$1b spent annually on diabetic kidney disease

The rate of end-stage diabetic kidney disease treated with dialysis or transplant more than doubled (130%) between 2000 and 2010 – one of the largest increases of any developed country.

The Kidney Research Group report, prepared for Kidney Health Australia and funded by Boehringer Ingelheim, projects that the number of Australians with diabetes and kidney disease commencing dialysis or having a kidney transplant each year could exceed 2000 by 2025 if the incidence of diabetes continues to increase.
