6 key points from Australia's first pulmonary rehab guidelines

The first pulmonary rehabilitation guidelines developed for Australian healthcare professionals were published in March.

The guidelines have been developed by the Lung Foundation Australia and endorsed by the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Here are the main points:

  1. It’s strongly recommended that patients with stable moderate to severe COPD undergo pulmonary rehabilitation
  2. Those discharged from hospital after an exacerbation should undergo rehabilitation to decrease recurrence, preferably within two weeks
  3. Home-based or community-based
