$7 million boost for gastro research
Gastroenterology-related researchers have received $7 million out of $540 million in the latest round of NHMRC grants.
It’s a small slice of the pie compared with the big winners - with oncology ($98 million), heart disease ($82 million) and diabetes research ($54 million).
Dr Richard Young from the University of Adelaide received the top grant for gastroenterology, with more than $800,000 allocated to his research on sweet-taste receptors in the gut and their role in managing blood glucose.
