Activated immunity linked to depression

The study in 1790 people with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes showed that levels of C-reactive protein, IL-1b, IL-1RA, monocyte chemotactic protein-1, white blood cell count and triglyceride were all correlated with depressive symptoms scores after adjusting for HbA1c and other factors.

The authors said their findings supported the hypothesis that inflammation in type 2 diabetes could cause parallel development of depression, glucose intolerance and atherosclerosis.
