Addicts ‘not welcome’ in practices: survey

The study, conducted by Hunter New England Health, surveyed 1700 NSW GPs anonymously and found that of the 404 who responded, 72% reported that negative experiences with drug-dependent patients was the most common barrier to prescribing OST.

A lack of specialist support was cited by 58% of respondents as a barrier to prescribing OST, and 75% said more accessible specialist support was the most important facilitating factor.
