Advance in breast tissue reconstruction

WOMEN requiring remoulded breasts after cancer may benefit in future from a technology developed for designing buildings and bridges. Laser scans and  computer-aided design (CAD) has been used in three patients, providing enhanced symmetry in tissue reconstruction.

In future CAD could be used to develop scaffolds on which the patients’ own cells could be grown, the researchers said.
