After-hours ICU discharge ups death risk

Intensive care patients continue to be discharged after hours even though this significantly increases risk of death, say Melbourne researchers.

According to their analysis of over 700,000 ICU admissions in Australia and New Zealand, around one in seven patients are discharged to a general ward between 6pm and 6am, and this figure has not budged in almost a decade.
